16A- What's Your Secret Sauce?
1) Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.
1. I truly love to see the people in my life do well which makes me a natural born motivator. There are many people in business that only care about how much money is in their pockets and have little care for their colleagues and friends. I pride myself on wanting my whole team to succeed, not just myself.
2. I have the ability to get along with people from different backgrounds/cultures. Throughout my life, I have had friends from different socio-economic upbringings and many of them came from third-world countries. I have been able to build a strong understanding of how to build relationships with different types of people because of my experiences growing up.
3. I'm able to push through tough situations. On many occasions in my personal, academic, and professional life I have had to overcome a situation even though it would've been easy to quit.
4. I'm always thinking about ways to improve. Often people get comfortable with success and don't look for ways to innovate their business. This leads to losses in the long run because companies get caught behind competitors.
5. I'm passionate about the things I'm interested in. Hopefully this will transfer to my professional career by leading me to be being extremely good at a few things rather than being okay at many things.
2) Interview the five people who know you the best.
1. Interview 1- My dad said that I have continued to show traits of leadership and that I have a strong understanding of economical theories and business principles.
2. Interview 2- My mom said that I am an honest person who is loyal to those who are close to me.
3. Interview 3- My oldest sister said that I am very analytical and that I always think logically when making a decision.
4. Interview 4- My youngest sister said that I am compassionate and I can convince people easily.
5. Interview 5- My best friend said that I don't give into pressure and that I am able to say no.
3) Reflect on the differences
After reflecting on the interviews, there are similarities and differences in how people view me and how I view myself. My dad's interview was interesting because it highlighted my skills that could translate to my professional career. I've always thought I had these abilities but I didn't think of them when making my list. Something else that surprised me was my mom mentioning my loyalty. I say this because I've always been loyal but it has often been a trait that has had a negative effect on situations. On the other hand, my mom saw it as something positive that makes me different. My sisters points were similar to those I thought for myself. My oldest sister mentioned my analytical skills which are a reason for why I am always looking for ways to improve. My other sister mentioned my compassion and ability to influence people which leads me to be a great motivator. Lastly, my best friends said that I don't give into pressure and this is why I am able to push through tough situations. Overall, I wouldn't change anything I listed because my loved ones mentioned similar traits and pointed out different ones that make me who I am.

Hi Felipe,
ReplyDeleteI think your five traits are really great and I especially liked that you said you love seeing people in your life do well and that you are a motivator. I think it can be easy to get caught up in being the best and secretly not want your friends to do better than you, so it's great that you can put all of those feelings to the side and truly support your loved ones. Having a friend like you is what many people look for, great post!
Hi Felipe,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your five traits and its nice to see that your family and close friends know you well and know what your best qualities are as well and how it adds on to your human capital. I especially loved your first trait on your list because that is the way that I feel about the business world as well as many people only do it for the money and not really for the betterment of society or even humanity as a whole so having more people like you in the world would be the best for society as whole. Great post!
Hi Felipe, I loved your interviews and it is great your family and friends had such kind words to say as it really shows your character. I think it is great that when you self-reflected on what five ways your human capital was unique, that these also aligned with what your interviewees had to say. All of these attributes are what I look for in my friends, and have a great reflection on who you are as a person, great job.
