26A- Celebrating Failure

Earlier this semester I decided I wanted to try the ketogenic diet. I heard of all the health benefits this diet could bring and the success people have had losing weight with it. I set a goal to go keto until the end of the semester. I slowly starting taking out certain foods from my diet such as potatoes, pasta, and bread. Each of these foods made up a major part of my diet so I was expecting to see results soon. After about two weeks, I noticed that my energy was increasing and I wasn't feeling so bloated all the time. It was getting hard to handle my cravings but I was satisfied with the results. By the time February came around, I had lost 10 pounds. Around this time, I started to miss pasta more than anything. Italian food has always been my favorite and I was having a weak moment. One weekend my mom made my favorite carbonara pasta and I decided to have a plate. It tasted like the best pasta I'd ever had in my life after a month and a half of being keto. As a result, I decided to stop the diet and I was back to my regular eating habits. I didn't reach my goal of being on the keto diet for the whole semester. This was my first time trying any sort of diet and I failed.

I learned that good things are worth fighting for. I was seeing all the results I once wished for but I wasn't able to fight through temptation. I also learned that it's important to get out of your comfort zone because there's no room for growth there. I feel like I was able to grow as a person just by trying something new. Although I failed to reach my goal, it was a great learning experience and I'm proud I was able to push myself for that month and a half.

Unfortunately, we all have to face failure in our personal, academic, and professional life. One of the ways I deal with failure is by practicing healthy coping methods. It's easy to let failure get to you but I try to exercise or read a book to help me get my mind off things. This class has helped me to appreciate failure more. In business, you have to be willing to take risks because those risks can pay off big for your company. There's always a chance you'll fail but it's worth it because without taking a risk you guarantee that you'll stay in the same place.
